About the Work
I am responsible for the day to day operations of the Dallas Municipal Archives. We acquire, preserve, describe, and make available the historic records of Dallas city government. I enjoy problem solving, and helping people gives me great joy. The information we provide to governing bodies, city departments, and citizens deeply impacts public policy, governmental decision making, and the work of everyday citizens. Archives work is just one of many different information agencies. I think Libraries, Archives, and Museums should all be viewed as information-based businesses that are a part of one large industry.
How the iSchool Prepared Them
Library administration class was very important. Of course, all the archives-based classes were important.
A Memorable iSchool Experience
I made friends for life in my classes at the iSchool. I look back with great fondness at the socializing I did during graduate school. I think it's important for faculty to facilitate meetups and engage with students. Some of my best times were social events with professors and invited speakers.

Advice for Current Students
I encourage current students to explore the many different opportunities in the information world. It's OK to get experience in fields you might not think you'd enjoy. You'll be surprised. In a competitive job market, having a wide skill set is more valuable than ever.
