About the Work

I work as a Software Engineer, building scalable web applications and platform solutions across the full stack. My role involves designing systems, writing and reviewing code, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable and user-focused products.

What I enjoy most is solving complex problems and turning ideas into practical solutions that people actually use. I value the balance of analytical thinking and creativity that engineering requires.

The impact of my work lies in creating efficient, scalable systems that improve user experience and support business growth. I see my role as directly connected to our field because software engineering drives innovation, enables digital transformation, and forms the foundation for modern technological advancement.

How the iSchool Prepared Them

The most important classes for my current role were those focused on data structures, algorithms, software engineering principles, and database systems. These courses built the foundation for problem-solving, system design, and writing efficient, maintainable code.

Beyond coursework, hands-on experiences such as internships, collaborative projects, and real-world application development were especially valuable. They helped me understand how to translate theory into scalable solutions and work effectively within a team.

In terms of professional development, continuous learning, through technical courses, code reviews, and working on increasingly complex systems, has been critical. Staying current with evolving technologies and improving communication and leadership skills has also been essential for growth in my role.

A Memorable iSchool Experience

One of my favorite iSchool memories is the very first day when we were welcomed and introduced to classmates from all around the world. I was struck by how diverse and vibrant the community was—it immediately felt like a global environment where different cultures and perspectives came together.

After my first semester, the pandemic shifted everything online in 2020 and 2021. While those years were challenging, they also strengthened our resilience and connection in new ways.

What made it especially meaningful was the final day at commencement. After two years without an in-person graduation, we finally gathered again at the fountain for photos, reconnecting as iSchoolers before the grand ceremony. That moment felt full circle, from our first day meeting as strangers to celebrating together as graduates. It was emotional, memorable, and a powerful reminder of how far we had come.

Additional Reflections

My experience at iSchool was truly worth it. The journey challenged me, shaped my perspective, and prepared me both professionally and personally. Being part of such a diverse and driven community reinforced how powerful education and collaboration can be.

The University of Texas motto, “What starts here changes the world,” genuinely resonates with me. My time at UT Austin laid the foundation for my career and growth, and I carry that spirit with me in everything I do. Hook ’em!

Advice for Current Students

My advice to current students is to focus on building strong fundamentals and practical skills. Go beyond coursework, work on real projects, internships, or personal initiatives that allow you to apply what you learn. The ability to solve real-world problems matters more than memorizing concepts.

Stay curious and keep learning, especially in fast-evolving areas like AI and distributed systems. Develop communication and collaboration skills as much as technical skills, because teamwork is essential in any professional environment. Finally, be patient with your growth, consistency and continuous improvement make a bigger difference than short bursts of effort.
