Dr. Gwizdka investigates eye-tracking for adaptive user interfaces

School of Information Assistant Professor Jacek Gwizdka, a co-director of the iSchool’s Information eXperience (IX) Lab, is a principal investigator on a new project called “Eye-Tracking for Adaptive User Interfaces.” The project is being funded by Lockheed Martin Corporation.

Students Place Second in UXPA Competition

The UT iSchool was well-represented at this year’s annual User Experience Professionals Association conference in Toronto. In addition to Dr. Randolph Bias receiving a lifetime achievement award, three iSchool students placed second in a student design competition. The UXPA 2017 Student Design Competition challenged the three students to create a smart assistant for online shopping.

UX student Tim Salau to intern with Google

A Texas iSchool student is heading to Google world headquarters this summer.

Tim Salau was chosen for the User Experience Design Internship at Google’s offices in Mountain View, Calif., where he will conduct user-experience research with the company’s Google search team.

“I'm embarking on a childhood dream that I didn't expect to happen so soon,” said Tim, who is in his first year of the School of Information Master’s of Science in Information Science program.

Dr. Bias receives lifetime achievement award

The world’s premier organization for user experience professionals is honoring School of Information Professor Randolph G. Bias with its lifetime achievement award.

A pioneer of the user experience field, Dr. Bias spent two decades in private industry before joining the School of Information in 2003.

Randolph Bias and Sheng-Cheng Huang Receive John Wiley Best Paper Award at ASIS&T

The world’s leading organization for information research, ASIS&T, has awarded the 2016 John Wiley & Sons Best JASIST Paper Award to iSchool professor Dr. Randolph Bias and his doctoral graduate, Dr. Sheng-Cheng "Hans" Huang, for their work on neuroimaging and information systems.  The honor will be presented at the 2016 Annual Meeting of the Association for Information Science and Technology in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Gwizdka, Zhang Earn Grant

UT iSchool Assistant Professors Yan Zhang and Jacek Gwizdka received a $44,444 grant from the UT-Austin in Portugal International collaborator for Emerging Technologies co-lab.  The grant will fund their study of interface and content elements that people use to evaluate online health care information.  Zhang and Gwizdka are working with their colleague Carla Lopes from the University of Porto in Portugal.

Assistant Professor Jacek Gwizdka and Associate Professor Matthew Lease and Luis Francisco-Revilla received a $100,000 grant for their project “Relevance Mining and Detection System.” Francisco-Revilla serves as a research associate and manager of the visualization interfaces and applications group at the Texas Advanced Computing Center.
