Open-Rank Tenured/Tenure-Track Faculty Positions

The newly formed School of Computing is entering a period of significant growth. As one of the three founding departments of the School of Computing, and as part of this growth process, the Department of Information (iSchool) at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for tenured and tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, to begin Fall 2027. Candidates will be expected to conduct innovative and impactful research and to teach at both graduate and undergraduate levels. Our tenure-track and tenured faculty normally have a 2/1 teaching load, with opportunities for course releases and buyouts. Salaries are competitive.

This is an open-rank, open-area search. We welcome applications from exceptional candidates in any area. We encourage applicants from a broad range of fields to apply. Examples of areas include but are not limited to:

• Archives and Digital Curation
• AI and Health
• Human-Centered AI
• Human-Centered Data Science
• Human-Computer Interaction and Design
• Information Behavior
• Information Security and Privacy

We are particularly interested in information scholars whose expertise spans more than one of these areas, focuses on their intersections, or connects these areas to other areas of the information field and beyond.

The Department holds the Governor Bill Daniel Professorship in Archival Enterprise, which is one of multiple endowments available to support appointments made through this search.

The iSchool is one of three founding departments of UT's new School of Computing, alongside Computer Science and Statistics and Data Science. We welcome candidates whose work creates opportunities for collaboration with colleagues in those departments or elsewhere at The University of Texas at Austin, including through joint appointments.

As an interdisciplinary academic unit, our faculty are drawn from a wide range of disciplines and collaborate broadly with other units across campus. We welcome applications from various disciplines including, but not limited to: information science, information studies, computer science, data science, archival studies, library and information science, human-centered computing, science and technology studies, communication, psychology, design, computational linguistics, and electrical and computer engineering. We seek strong scholars with compelling research agendas, regardless of disciplinary background.
