Advising Appointments

Appointments with the academic advisor are available by Zoom or phone, Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. When you schedule an appointment, you will receive a Zoom link by email for the meeting.

Note: Only Informatics major students will be seen for academic advising appointments during the first 12 days of class and during advising registration each semester.

All students must attend an information session before scheduling a meeting with an advisor. Include your UT EID and specific questions in the comments section when making an appointment, and make sure you receive a confirmation email.

Student Services Guidance

Q-Drops

A request to drop or withdraw after the 12th class day must be submitted through the Q-Drop system by the published deadline in the academic calendar.

All students should consult with their academic advisor before dropping a course or withdrawing. Students should also review possible impacts through Texas One Stop, Texas Global, and other applicable offices.

After the mid-semester deadline, students may be eligible to use the One-Time Exception. Meet with the Undergraduate Student Services Office as soon as possible to review options.

Medical Withdrawal

An ill student whose condition prevents class attendance may pursue a current-semester withdrawal through the Undergraduate Student Services Office until the mid-semester deadline.

After the mid-semester deadline, medical withdrawal requests are processed by University Health Services, and mental-health withdrawal requests are processed by the Counseling and Mental Health Center.

Before submitting a medical withdrawal application, students must speak with their Informatics advisor. The application deadline is 5:00 PM on the last class day of the semester.

Standard Pass/Fail

To take a course pass/fail, you must have completed at least 30 credit hours. Pass/fail courses count as electives and cannot satisfy a specific degree requirement. No more than two courses per semester may be taken pass/fail.

During the first 12 class days, or four class days in the summer, grading status can be changed through the registration system. After that, students must meet with their advisor. See the academic calendar for deadlines.
