Several community members, including Prof. Yan Zhang, Jiaxin An, and Akhil Adavi, received special recognition for their outstanding contributions.

Prof. Min Kyung Lee Wins Grant to Explore Impact of Responsible AI on Financial Performance

As artificial intelligence has boomed over the past several years, industry commitment to responsible AI has often failed to keep pace, perhaps because executives do not see such practices as essential to their bottom line. This fall, iSchool professor Min Kyung Lee will embark on an investigation, funded by a coalition of major philanthropies including the Ford Foundation and the Omidyar Network, to identify the relationship between companies’ responsible AI practices and their financial outcomes.

More than 15 current iSchool faculty and students will be presenting papers and posters at the event.

UT Austin and Cornell Medicine Awarded $1M NIH Grant to Tackle Black Youth Mental Health

A research team led by iSchool Professor Ying Ding was awarded a $1 million dollar research grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Consortium to Advance Health Equity and Researcher Diversity (AIM-AHEAD) Program to develop novel interventions targeting risk and protective factors among Black youth with the goal of reducing the suicide rate.

iSchool Faculty & Alumna Join New National Research Center to Improve Outcomes for Disabled Students

The School of Information is well-represented in a new national initiative to improve outcomes for millions of disabled students on U.S. campuses. The mission of the National Disability Center for Student Success at The University of Texas at Austin is to provide the first comprehensive and actionable research to support disabled student experiences and achievement after high school. Andrew Dillon, V.M. Daniel Professor of Information and dean of the iSchool from 2002 to 2017, is co-investigator of a $5 million grant from the Institute of Education Sciences and is the National Disability Center’s Director of Research Dissemination.

iSchool Well-Represented at 2023 ASIS&T Annual Meeting, Andrew Dillon Receives Award of Merit

Several faculty members and doctoral students represented The University of Texas at Austin School of Information at the 2023 Association for Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T) Annual Meeting, which was held in London, UK from October 27-31. The theme of the conference was “Making a Difference: Translating Information Research into Practice, Policy, and Action.”
