Undergraduate Student Services
If you are an Informatics undergraduate student and need assistance, please contact us at studentservices@ischool.utexas.edu. We will be attending to email Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am-4:30 pm.
Reasons majors should contact our office:
- Q-Drops
- Withdrawals
- Pass/fail status change for a class
- Advising to take courses at another institution
- Degree modification petitions
- Advising on general University policy and procedure
- Referrals to other campus offices
Any inquiries about your coursework and your academic standing should be directed to your Informatics advisor.
Q-Drops: Requests to drop courses after the 12th class day
A request to drop or withdrawal must be submitted to the new Q-Drop system through the deadline (see academic calendar for specific date).
Any drop during this period is considered a Q-Drop; a "Q" identifies the drop on a student's academic record. All drops during this period will be considered "academic"; however, students may submit an appeal to request the drop be counted as "non-academic" through the Undergraduate Student Services office. If determined the reason is academic, the drop is counted toward the six-drop limit.
All students should consult with their academic advisor when considering dropping a class or withdrawing. Students should consult with Texas One Stop on possible financial aid, scholarship, and fellowship ramifications, and/or with Texas Global on visa and immigration matters (if you are an international student). Additional implications students should consider before making registration changes include (but are not limited to): time to degree, honors, veterans' benefits, professional certification, employment eligibility, graduate/professional school applications, and athletic eligibility.
After the mid-semester deadline, students may be eligible to drop or withdrawal using the One-Time-Exception (OTE). Students must meet with their advisor in the Undergraduate Student Services Office as soon as possible to review options.
Medical Withdrawal
An ill student whose illness precludes class attendance may pursue a current semester withdrawal through the Undergraduate Student Services Office until the mid-semester deadline. After the mid-semester deadline, requests for a semester withdrawal for medical reasons will be processed by University Health Services; and Counseling and Mental Health Center will process requests for a semester withdrawal for mental health reasons.
Before submitting a medical withdrawal application, students must speak to their Informatics advisor.
The deadline for submitting a medical withdrawal application is 5 pm on the last class day of the semester.
Standard Pass/Fail
In order to take a course Pass/Fail, you must have completed 30 credit hours or more. Courses taken pass/fail will be counted as electives and cannot count toward a specific degree requirement. No more than two courses per semester may be taken Pass/Fail. If you take a class Pass/Fail and a grade of F is assigned, the F will affect your GPA..
During the first 12 class days (four class days in the summer), you may change your grading status via the registration system. After that date, you must meet with your advisor to have it changed. Consult the academic calendar for specific dates for the Pass/Fail deadline.
Advising Appointments
Appointments with the Academic Advisor are available via Zoom or phone, Monday - Friday from 8:30am-4:30 pm. When you schedule an appointment, you will receive a Zoom link via email that will allow you to join the appointment at the scheduled time.
NOTE: Only Informatics major students will be seen for academic advising appointments during the first 12 days of class and during the advising registration each semester.
All students must attend an information session prior to scheduling a meeting with an advisor. Please include your UT EID and leave specific questions in the comments section when making an appointment. Double check to make sure you receive a confirmation email.
