The class will engage students with in-the-field practitioners making sense of the new AI landscape, and together the class will review policies, documents, and trials to see what the latest efforts of the sector are. While the course will utilize AI tools, the is AI readiness not technical expertise.
Instructor Description
Libraries, museums, and archives are struggling with the advent of widely available AI tools. These cultural heritage institutions are experimenting with AI-based metadata generation, accessibility applications, enhanced image manipulation, and new ways of engaging the communities they serve. As exploration turns to production, cultural heritage organizations are writing policies, developing standards, and taking a stand in terms of ethical use of their contents. The class will engage students with in-the-field practitioners making sense of the new landscape, and together the class will review policies, documents, and trials to see what the latest efforts of the sector are. Prerequisites
Upper-division standing and Informatics 310C.
