Boyvey Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow

I am a Bullard Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the School of Information, The University of Texas at Austin where I focus on health misinformation, health information interaction (under Jacek Gwizdka and Yan Zhang) and blockchain in healthcare (with Eric T. Meyer). I completed my PhD in Communication Science (2019) at the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, NTU. Before my PhD studies, I obtained a BS Nursing (Cum Laude) from Trinity University of Asia (2008) and a Master of Public Health from the University of the Philippines - Manila (2012). Aside from being a researcher, I am a Registered Nurse in the Philippines.

In general, my research examines the impact of ICT (smartphones, social media and blockchain) in healthcare and non-healthcare contexts, including the organizational issues that come with it. I approach this topic by applying and/or testing media, behavioral, and organizational theories using mixed-methods research. For my PhD, I investigated factors associated with Filipino nurses' use of smartphones for work purposes in clinical settings. Moreover, I also do research on mHealth, eHealth, health communication, infodemiology, and new media (e.g., location-based advertising, social media, social TV).

I have articles published in top-tier communication and informatics journals such as Computers in Human Behavior, Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking, Health Communication, International Journal of Medical Informatics, Journal of Health Communication, and Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association (JAMIA). I have also presented my research in competitive conferences organized by the International Communication Association (ICA; Top Paper in Mobile Communication 2018), Broadcast Education Association (BEA; Top 2 Debut Research Paper 2016), Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS), and Pacific Telecommunications Council (PTC; Young Scholars Program 2019 recipient).
