PhD Student
Jessica Needle is a PhD student in the School of Information (iSchool) at the University of Texas at Austin and an NSF Research Traineeship Fellow in Ethical AI, where she studies critical perspectives on technology, ethics, and surveillance. Her research work examines how socio-technical information systems are constructed, deployed, and communicated within complex social and political contexts. She also interrogates how different communities engage with, negotiate, or resist
these systems to preserve democratic ideals or advance social justice goals, including issues like literacy, free speech, and autonomy.
