This year’s ACM SIGCHI Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work & Social Computing (CSCW) kicks off in Bergen, Norway on October 18, and the University of Texas School of Information will be well represented. More than 15 current iSchool faculty and students will be presenting papers and posters at the event.

Second Annual iSchool Career Fair Connects Students, Employers

On Tuesday, September 23, over 250 undergraduate and graduate students of the University of Texas School of Information converged on the Texas Union Ballroom on the Forty Acres to meet potential employers and practice their professional development skills. The event was the second annual iSchool Career Fair, conceived by leadership as a way to bring professional opportunities directly to students – and to help employer partners meet hiring needs. 

Drs. Chan Young Park and Jiaxin Pei to Join iSchool Faculty in Fall 2026

The University of Texas School of Information is pleased to announce the hiring of two outstanding scholars for faculty roles beginning next year: Chan Young Park and Jiaxin Pei. Their brief biographical statements can be found below. Both new assistant professors bring with them cutting-edge expertise in large language models and artificial intelligence, with a focus on human contexts, experiences, and impacts.

UT Austin and Cornell Medicine Awarded $1M NIH Grant to Tackle Black Youth Mental Health

A research team led by iSchool Professor Ying Ding was awarded a $1 million dollar research grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Consortium to Advance Health Equity and Researcher Diversity (AIM-AHEAD) Program to develop novel interventions targeting risk and protective factors among Black youth with the goal of reducing the suicide rate.

iSchool Faculty & Alumna Join New National Research Center to Improve Outcomes for Disabled Students

The School of Information is well-represented in a new national initiative to improve outcomes for millions of disabled students on U.S. campuses. The mission of the National Disability Center for Student Success at The University of Texas at Austin is to provide the first comprehensive and actionable research to support disabled student experiences and achievement after high school. Andrew Dillon, V.M. Daniel Professor of Information and dean of the iSchool from 2002 to 2017, is co-investigator of a $5 million grant from the Institute of Education Sciences and is the National Disability Center’s Director of Research Dissemination.

iSchool Well-Represented at 2023 ASIS&T Annual Meeting, Andrew Dillon Receives Award of Merit

Several faculty members and doctoral students represented The University of Texas at Austin School of Information at the 2023 Association for Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T) Annual Meeting, which was held in London, UK from October 27-31. The theme of the conference was “Making a Difference: Translating Information Research into Practice, Policy, and Action.”
