Abstract: Our work creates intelligent systems that support people's day-to-day activities. We often focus on the domains where human creativity and social skills play a dominant role and substantial automation seems unthinkable. This talk will cover three threads of our work, including (1) a crowd-AI chatbot that holds conversations about any topic, (2) assisting writers in composing lengthy and complicated novels, and (3) empowering a local community to combat the pressing air pollution threats. Collectively, these projects advance computer science by challenging what can be achieved by people and computers together.
Bio: Ting-Hao 'Kenneth' Huang is an Assistant Professor at the College of Information Sciences and Technology at Pennsylvania State University. His research lies at the intersection of human-computer interaction (HCI) and artificial intelligence (AI). He cares deeply about the human uses of technology; his work creates practical, robust, and useful intelligent systems that provide support in complex human tasks. Before joining Penn State, he received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University in 2018.
