Abstract
According to the EPA, in 2017 landfills received 11.2 million tons of textile waste. In 2019 the New York Times reported that over 60% of textiles are now synthetics derived from fossil fuels. So if the numbers haven’t varied drastically, roughly 9.52 million tons of textile waste added to landfills yearly won’t decay. In the spirit of trying to change that I teamed up with SUAVS, a local footwear brand, to complete a study where we explored the sustainable efforts SUAVS employs as well as other industry techniques that could propel them towards a completely circular production cycle.
