Creating Transparency: Visualizing the New Braunfels Public Library's Reports to the State

Abstract

In October 2019, the New Braunfels Public Library celebrated its twentieth anniversary. As part of the compilation of statistics for the annual report to the Texas State Library, I compiled statistics from 1999-2019 in an attempt to visualize how the library has changed over the past two decades. In doing so, I created a visualization of the 2019 report. Using the Aspen Institute’s “Rising to the Challenge: Re-Envisioning Public Libraries” as a guide, the purpose of compiling these annual reports is to give patrons a visual representation into both the administrative functions and the services libraries provide.
