Spring 2026 Capstone Poster Showcase

174 Student Projects, One Afternoon of Research, Design, and Information Practice

On April 24, 2026, the UT iSchool community gathered at the Etter-Harbin Alumni Center to celebrate the Spring 2026 Capstone Poster Showcase. The event brought together graduating students from the Master of Science in Information Studies and undergraduate Informatics programs to present applied work in AI, data science, accessibility, archives, product strategy, UX design, and UX research.

Interim Dean Ken Fleischmann described the showcase as a celebration of the interdisciplinarity and excellence of the Informatics and MSIS programs, with projects developed in collaboration with faculty, campus units, nonprofits, and industry partners.

The Dean’s awards recognized four projects for outstanding capstone execution across the graduate and undergraduate programs.

Graduate Winner: Aleena Jacks

Designing Against Deskilling: Co-Designing Human-AI Training and Workflow Interventions for Radiology Practice

Jacks examined how AI can unintentionally erode clinical expertise when introduced without sufficient safeguards. Her project focused on practical interventions that help teams preserve human judgment, accountability, and long-term skill development in radiology workflows.

Undergraduate Winner: Kyle Castillo

Evaluation of CapMetro Bikeshare Station Performance and Future Station Planning

Working with CapMetro, Castillo developed a data-informed approach to evaluating bikeshare station performance and supporting future expansion. The project translated operational data into a more actionable planning tool for selecting and comparing locations.

Graduate Honorable Mention: Lucas McGill

The Limits of Acoustic Fingerprinting and the Value of Researcher Metadata: Audio De-duplication of the Lyle Campbell Collection at AILLA

McGill’s archival studies capstone addressed a difficult de-duplication problem for the Archive of the Indigenous Languages of Latin America, showing that strong metadata and archival practice remain essential even when technical analysis tools are part of the workflow.

Undergraduate Honorable Mention: Marsh Vo

A Medallion Data Pipeline for UTMB’s Microcredential Ecosystem

Vo designed a scalable data foundation for a unified learner record environment at the University of Texas Medical Branch. The project created a proof-of-concept medallion pipeline intended to connect siloed credentialing and competency systems into a more coherent record ecosystem.
