Dean’s Award Winners
2026 Award Winners and Honorable Mentions
The Dean’s awards recognized four projects for outstanding capstone execution across the graduate and undergraduate programs.

Graduate Winner: Aleena Jacks
Designing Against Deskilling: Co-Designing Human-AI Training and Workflow Interventions for Radiology Practice
Jacks examined how AI can unintentionally erode clinical expertise when introduced without sufficient safeguards. Her project focused on practical interventions that help teams preserve human judgment, accountability, and long-term skill development in radiology workflows.

Undergraduate Winner: Kyle Castillo
Evaluation of CapMetro Bikeshare Station Performance and Future Station Planning
Working with CapMetro, Castillo developed a data-informed approach to evaluating bikeshare station performance and supporting future expansion. The project translated operational data into a more actionable planning tool for selecting and comparing locations.

Graduate Honorable Mention: Lucas McGill
The Limits of Acoustic Fingerprinting and the Value of Researcher Metadata: Audio De-duplication of the Lyle Campbell Collection at AILLA
McGill’s archival studies capstone addressed a difficult de-duplication problem for the Archive of the Indigenous Languages of Latin America, showing that strong metadata and archival practice remain essential even when technical analysis tools are part of the workflow.

Undergraduate Honorable Mention: Marsh Vo
A Medallion Data Pipeline for UTMB’s Microcredential Ecosystem
Vo designed a scalable data foundation for a unified learner record environment at the University of Texas Medical Branch. The project created a proof-of-concept medallion pipeline intended to connect siloed credentialing and competency systems into a more coherent record ecosystem.
