UT Austin iSchool Alumna Appointed Director of Communications

The University of Texas at Austin School of Information welcomes back one of its own graduates, Keisha Laneé Brown, as the school’s first Director of Communications. In this new role, Keisha will lead the implementation of the iSchool’s strategic marketing and communication efforts.

Texas iSchool Launches School Librarian Certificate Program

In early October 2019, the University of Texas at Austin School of Information launched its new School Librarian Certificate Program. The certificate program will be coordinated by Dr. Barbara A. Jansen, an educator with over 35 years of experience as an elementary classroom teacher, K-12 school librarian, and university instructor.

Texas iSchool Welcomes New Assistant Professor, Dr. Min Kyung Lee

The University of Texas at Austin School of Information is pleased to announce that Dr. Min Kyung Lee of Carnegie Mellon University will be joining the Texas iSchool as an assistant professor starting in January 2020. 

Dr. Lee is currently a research scientist in Human-Computer Interaction at Carnegie Mellon Universityin the Machine Learning Department and the Center for Machine Learning and Health.

Tony Grubesic Named Texas iSchool’s New Associate Dean for Research

The University of Texas School of Information is delighted to announce that Dr. Tony Grubesic will join the faculty as Professor and Associate Dean for Research beginning August 12, 2019.

Grubesic will be the Texas iSchool’s first Associate Dean for Research – a new senior leadership position created by Dean Eric T. Meyer.

Texas iSchool Welcomes New Bill & Lewis Suit Professor of Information Technology

The School of Information at the University of Texas at Austin is pleased to announce that Dr. Ying Ding will be joining the iSchool faculty this fall as the Bill & Lewis Suit Professor of Information Technology.

Currently a Professor of Informatics and Information Science at Indiana University in the School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, Ding also serves as Director of Graduate Studies for the Data Science Program at IU.

Art Exhibit Adds Representation and Visibility for Underrepresented Identities

Last weekend, an East Austin warehouse featured the “Fully Free: Identity Expression” Art Exhibit, an exhibit highlighting people’s experiences with identity expression.  

Spearheaded by Fully Free Art Collective, the exhibit brought visibility to an array of social identities, adding more diverse representation to the mainstream image of identity, and highlighting the many aspects of society that do not allow people of specific social identities to present as their full selves.
