Description:

Title: Visualization and Analysis at the Frontier - Leveraging Advanced Cyberinfrastructure to Accelerate Time to Discovery

Location: UTA 5.522 (1616 Guadalupe St., 5th Floor)

Abstract:

Leadership advanced computing centers like TACC support an ever-increasing research scope: users in traditional domains wish to run larger problems for longer using more accurate simulations; users in emerging domains wish to seamlessly transition their research workflow from personal-scale systems; and all users wish to exploit hardware advances to accelerate their science. These challenges manifest themselves acutely for visual analysis, where users often expect to view, manipulate, and annotate data in real-time. In this talk, I will present the TACC Visualization team’s initiatives in addressing these challenges, including: software-defined visualization software for efficient hardware-agnostic rendering; immersive human-data interaction interfaces for intuitive and collaborative analysis; and web-based analysis portals for domain-specific investigation.

Bio:

Dr. Paul A. Navrátil is a Research Scientist and the Deputy Director of Visualization at the Texas Advanced Computing Center, where he oversees TACC’s VIA (Visualization Interfaces and Applications) and SVT (Scalable Visualization Technologies) groups, TACC’s POB and ACB Visualization Laboratories, and the visualization subsystems on TACC’s advanced computing resources. Paul’s research interests include large-scale distributed visualization algorithms and scalable visualization interfaces for cross-platform science delivery. http://pages.tacc.utexas.edu/~pnav/
